Chapter 4: Transfer student

But I fell in love with You

Chapter 4: Transfer student

When Yang Nainai woke up, her whole body was sore. She rose from her bed in a daze and brushed her teeth. Halfway through, she suddenly found red marks on her neck.

She froze on the spot,

"Arghh, I forgot to light the mosquito coils last night."

She went back to her room, took off her pajamas and changed into her school uniform. When she lowered her head, she saw more red marks on her chest that were accompanied by some itchy red spots. She couldn't resist scratching them a few times. The more she scratched, the more itchy it got, Yang Nainai quickly wore her school uniform and went out. She then asked loudly,

"Mom, do you have any anti-itch medicine for mosquito bites?"

She shouted twice but the room was empty so no one had responded. Yang Nainai opened her mother's room and tidied the place up.

Yang Nainai stood still for a moment then sighed inside her heart. She didn't even need to guess because her mother definitely went on a business trip again.

Yang Nainai's father is an internationally renowned photographer so he had to travel all over the world for work. His stunning photos had won quite a number of awards and accolades.

Her mother on the other hand, is a magazine editor and a part-time writer. Her parents met each other due to work. Yet they also travelled extensively because of work.

Even though they were both busy all the time, their love still remained as strong as ever, and the subject of divorce was never in their mind.

***flashback starts***

Yang Nainai once asked her parents if they had secretly divorced a long time ago, but didn't speak of it because of her.

Yang Jin gave her a burst of hard flicks on her forehead,

"Where did you learn such nonsense? Do you really wish to see my relationship with your mom turn bad?!"

Yang Nainai rubbed her pink forehead, crying and complaining,

"You and mom see each other only a few times a year. How can you live as a married couple like this? Don't tell me you two actually rely on fantasies to please one another?"

Zhang Rui hit her at the back of the head,

"Now your mouth doesn't even have a screening door to trap your nonsense. Your guts must have grown fat too seeing how you are making fun of your own parents."

The husband and wife then sat at the table, looking at each other sweetly, while feeding each other food, flirting with each other like a young couple in love.

Yang Nainai looked at them stupidly, so her mother then scolded her,

"Don't you have to go to school today? You're going to be late soon. "

Even the heavens would acknowledge her pitiful state as she was only thirteen years old and had just attended junior high school at that time. Didn't this couple worry about their precious daughter being kidnapped by some stranger?

***flashback ends***

She sneered. Sure, her parents were truly in love, and she was just a byproduct of it.

Yang Nainai scratched her neck as she left her community when Huo Yixuan suddenly appeared in front of her. Her mind instantly went back to the scene last night which caused her to turn away from him and run away in a panic. She was afraid that he would catch up and take his revenge on her.

Her nerves didn’t settle until she got on the bus and saw the car that Huo Yixuan was in, gradually pulled away from her. Yang Nainai finally breathed out a sigh of relief. Her vision must have been blurry because Huo Yixuan seemed to smile at her just now.

That smile looked eerily like the one he gave the gangster before he beat him up.

Yang Nainai couldn't help but shuddered at the thought. Calm down, calm down, don't think too much. Your mind is just playing tricks on you, he doesn't even know you exist.

Huo Yixuan normally walked with his head held up high and his vision raised towards the sky. He certainly didn’t know a small transparent nobody like her.

She thought about it once more, maybe it’s better not to take his pictures for the time being. She should go search for some other handsome guys elsewhere. Although money is important to her, her life should always take the first priority.

Yang Nainai arrived at her school dazedly. As soon as she entered the classroom, Ma Shanshan, who was at the same table, started gossiping,

"Do you know that we have a new transfer student coming in today?"

Yang Nainai flipped open her homework and checked if she had left out anything yesterday then she asked:

“Is it a guy or a girl?”

Ma Shanshan giggled: "A guy."

Yang Nainai’s hands paused for a moment then she raised her head,

"From what I am seeing now, you are blushing with peach blossoms on your face, and your eyes are full of spring. The only thing you haven’t done is wipe off that saliva that is dripping down your mouth. Let me guess, it must be a really handsome guy. Am I right?"

Ma Shanshan grinned as her spring heart swayed,

"I think I have met my fated one."

Ma Shanshan can be considered a class flower[1] because she has fair skin and an adorable doll-like face that everyone wanted to pinch.

Yang Nainai teased her when she saw her expression,

"You tell me that you have met your fated one at least ten times per month, and that it's different every time. Girl, what does this guy look like this time?"

Ma Shanshan gave her a look,

"You don't understand. It’s really true this time. I've never seen a guy who has the perfect blend of an angel’s and a devil’s temperament. With those long legs, broad shoulders, and charming disposition, he looks exactly like a prince who had stepped out of a manga book. He is the perfect sweetheart tailored by the heavens for me. Nainai, I'm positive I’m gonna be off the market soon."

Yang Nainai laughed merrily with curved eyes, while she tried her best to get out of Ma Shanshan’s excited grip,

"Forget it, the last time you said that to me, you happened to be looking at Huang Shiqi's ex-boyfriend, and they almost peeled your skin off. Keep your eyes clear and don't look for someone who already has an owner."

She stood up and kept her homework after telling her that, not caring whether Ma Shanshan was upset or not.

When she was done, the classroom bell rang, and her class had started for the day.

She went back to her seat and was finally ready for her class. She fumbled inside her pencil case then she accidentally toppled it over, causing all the contents to fall to the ground.

She lowered herself to pick it all up and then heard the head teacher come in and introduce the new transfer student.

Yang Nainai slowly picked up all her scattered belongings, then when she finally got up, her widened eyes suddenly met Huo Yixuan's which caused her to stagger immediately in her seat.

Huo Yixuan, why is he here? Could he be the new transfer student?

This didn't make sense to her as he had settled well in his previous school so why did he switch from a private school to a public one? The teachers’ ability to teach at that school were similar to theirs, so why did he transfer when he has no good reason to do so?

He didn’t even change his address and it was not closer to his house too!

She was starting to panic when Ma Shanshan stretched out her hand and tug discreetly on her sleeves,

"The teacher is calling you!"

Yang Nainai forced herself to focus as she sat up slowly. She then looked at the head teacher, Old man Hu.

Old man Hu was a chubby and amiable teacher. When he saw her, he smiled and said,

"Huo Yixuan, this is our language class representative. If you don't understand anything, you can ask her first."

Huo Yixuan nodded politely, "Thank you, teacher."

Before Yang Nainai could react, Huo Yixuan had already walked towards her and sat down on the empty seat beside.

Yang Nainai froze. Why ask her? Did she miss something? If the newly transferred students had any problems, shouldn't they ask the class monitor instead? Why did he assign this role to a language class representative instead? She felt as if she had just seen a ghost.

Ma Shanshan looked pass Yang Nainai and landed her happy gaze on Huo Yixuan. She mooned at his profile nervously while her heart pumped excitedly at the same time. She secretly took a peek at him at least a hundred times throughout the whole period.

Yang Nainai wished she could change seats with her and let them interact freely with each other.

After Ma Shanshan ogled at him for the 101st time, Yang Nainai finally couldn't stand it anymore and wrote a note to her,

"Why did the head teacher ask him to come to me with questions? What did I just miss?"

Ma Shanshan saw her note as she half paid attention to the teacher, while she wrote back a reply quietly,

"I think he said that he didn't bring his Chinese textbook, and he didn't know where our lessons had already progressed to, so teacher told him to check with you if he had any relevant questions about the lesson."

Yang Nainai sat still for a moment, then thought that her explanation seemed reasonable. She couldn't help but quietly glanced at Huo Yixuan out of the corner of her eye, and found that he was diligently staring at the blackboard, taking his notes carefully. He was quite serious in class and looked like he had no other thoughts. She released a tense breath.

She could only blame herself for panicking due to her own sins. That was why she was always afraid when she faced him.

It's okay, it's okay, Yang Nainai, it's not a problem.

It's just.... Huo Yixuan had now transferred here, so the value of his photos will depreciate in this school. This means that she will no longer be able to sell his photos for a good price.

Yang Nainai felt her heart squeeze in sadness at the thought, she could see her money flitter away in her mind’s eye.

My precious little money!
