When Madam Li heard the news that her son had come back home, she instantly felt miles better. The maid assisted her as she excitedly climb off her bed, and rushed to see her precious son.

The moment they both entered the town, both souls were exchanged once more, so now Tang Cheng Cheng’s soul was in Li Hai Jiao's body.

Tang Cheng Cheng walked modestly into the hall of the main house, and she was accompanied by a maidservant who had a healthy complexion while another handsome male servant tagged behind them, holding a cat in his arms.

Lynx had turned herself into a house cat. She had no choice but to do so because she had not cultivate enough powers to hide her perked up ears nor her luxurious tail when she turned into a human. She instead transformed herself into a cute round ball of fluff that delighted anyone who saw her.

"Hai Jiao, where have you been these days? Mother had been worried sick about you."

Madam Li then proceeded to grab the "fake Li Hai Jiao’s" hands, then put one of her cold jade hands on Tang Cheng Cheng's forehead, causing Tang Cheng Cheng's heart to jolt at the iciness.

What would happen to her if she knew that her real son was dead?

Tang Cheng Cheng looked as if she couldn’t bear to watch Madam Li succumb to her weak state.

"Ma..."

She suddenly felt a Fox's bump on her waist, and quickly composed herself before changing the words that was about to spill from her lips,

"Mother, I also don't know what had happened, but I was suddenly robbed when I went out. The robbers kidnapped us up the mountain. Fortunately, this brother saw that the road situation ahead didn’t seem normal, so he drew out his sword to help me so that I could successfully escape from their clutches."

Tang Cheng Cheng pointed to the "fake-hero", Jackal who was standing at her side.

"Thank you Noble warrior." Madam Li instructed the maid in a very dismissive tone, "Servants, prepare a gift for the gentleman."

"Mother, you don't need to give him a gift." Tang Cheng Cheng said hurriedly, "This warrior is actually seeking for employment right now so I was hoping to let him work as my bodyguard. May I know what mother thinks about this matter?"

"Bodyguard?" A bodyguard would spend the whole time sticking very close as his personal protection, but she didn’t even know where this person came from nor know anything about his personal history, so Madam Li couldn't help but hesitate at her son’s request.

"Mother, this warrior alone managed to defeat more than ten robbers before he saved me. If it wasn’t because of him, this child’s soul would have extinguished a long time ago." Tang Cheng Cheng lowered her head and pretended to wipe away her tears.

Fox immediately rolled his eyes at her actions.

Fox deeply felt once again that Tang Cheng Cheng should be re-educated on her acting, otherwise she would definitely expose all of them one day.

Fortunately, Madam Li was currently only paying more attention to her son's physical condition. Her child seemed different from his previous serious and restrained mannerism. He had always been upright and polite in the past but now he just seemed so far off his usual unsmiling temperament. She quickly reminded herself of how he had thankfully just returned alive and well from the disaster and decided to let his weird actions off. He may still have some lingering traumas, so he still couldn’t feel safe enough to roam freely here.

"Then I’ll just leave this up to you." Madam Li looked at the cat lying on Tang Cheng Cheng's arm, "This cat is...?"

"I picked it up on the road because it kept following behind us so I decided to just bring it home."

Hai Jiao hated cats, didn't he?

Madam Li was puzzled by the weird way he was acting.

She thought then that maybe her only son might still be trapped in the aftermath of experiencing his near brush with death, so perhaps his change of personality might be due to that too. She should not just impose rash judgements for the harsh realities that might have shocked her son, so she could only thank the heavens for her child’s safe return.

"Mother, I'm tired, I want to go back to my room and rest."

Tang Cheng Cheng coughed a few times and pretended as if she was unwell.

"Hurry up and help the young master to go back to his room!" Madam Li hurriedly ordered the servant girl beside her.

"Let... let Cheng Cheng help you, young master." Tang Cheng Cheng turned to look down at Fox.

The corners of Fox’s mouth twitched upwards as he stepped forward to support Tang Cheng Cheng's arm.

How could she even dare to let master serve her? - Jackal thought

A murderous aura burst forth from Jackal's body in an instant, almost exposing the hidden tail and ears...

"Meow." Lynx snuggled comfortably within Tang Cheng Cheng's arms and she mewled out a warning to him sternly.

Fox also chose to glare at him at that very moment.

The angry haze suddenly disappeared, making Jackal aware of where he actually was, that very moment. He quickly restrained his murderous aura inwards.

"Did it suddenly get cold just now?" Madam Li couldn't help shivering.

"Mother, I don't think you are feeling well, so you should go back to your room to rest." Tang Cheng Cheng said in a concerned manner.

"Alright," Madam Li turned her head and instructed the other maid, "Chang'er, brew two restorative tonics, and send one to the young master."

"Madam, this servant will brew the tonic for you and the young master now." Chang'er replied obediently.

"We don't need it," Fox said to Qi'er, "I'll prepare the tonic for young master instead."

They haven’t found the person in the Li household who wanted to kill Li Hai Jiao yet, so everyone was a suspect at this stage. This was just a precaution in case someone had poisoned the tonic. If Tang Cheng Cheng had the misfortune to ingest it then she might even end up at death’s door, fighting for her life in the end. Wouldn’t it be really troublesome at that point of time?

Besides, which doctor in this mortal plane can compare to Jackal at all?

Fox's sharp eyes then swept across to Concubine Wei who was standing behind Madam Li.

Since entering the hall, he haven't even heard her say a word, but her caring smile was ever so fake and full of ill intentions.

If he were to choose someone to suspect among the crowd, naturally his first pick would lie on these concubines who had the most to gain, and this was especially true for Concubine Wei who had given birth to a male heir 3 years ago. It was an open fact that as long as Li Hai Jiao died, the huge fortune of the Li family will be the sole possession of the child in her arms.

"How could this be appro..."

Tang Cheng Cheng interrupted Chang'er's unfinished words, "Let this servant take care of me well. Just concentrate on the wellbeing of Madam instead."

Tang Cheng Cheng turned to Fox and said,

"Let's go."

How dare she called his master a "servant" and still had the audacity to give him orders arrogantly now? Jackal gritted his teeth behind Tang Cheng Cheng’s back.
