Chapter 49: Treated differently

Yang Nainai yawned after finishing her self-study session at night. Fortunately, she had already finished her homework a long time ago so she could immediately go to sleep the moment she reached home.

Yet when she reached the stairwell, she saw Huo Yixuan who looked like he had waited there patiently for a long time. Every third year students were constantly exhausted so who wouldn't end up going home to sleep after school?

No matter how handsome Huo Yixuan is, a senior high school girl wasn’t some young kid who still had stars in her eyes, so Yang Nainai really didn't have the mood to appreciate his handsomeness.

Even Ma Shanshan didn't take a second glance as she strode away in exhaustion.

Yang Nainai lowered her head and planned to just walk pass him, yet Huo Yixuan just followed behind without any hesitation. They silently sat on the bench of the bus station, and when almost everyone around them cleared off, Huo Yixuan immediately pulled Yang Nainai into the taxi.

"I'm really tired, I want to go home and sleep." 

Yang Nainai didn't even have the strength to speak.

Huo Yixuan pressed her head on his shoulder, 

"Good girl, just sleep for now, I'll call you when we get there."

Yang Nainai heard his words, so she obediently leaned on him and fell asleep instantly.

Huo Yixuan smiled gently as his eyes softened. He was happy that she had started to trust and rely on him now. Yes, this is how it should be. She should just obediently lean and rely on his capabilities wholeheartedly.

Huo Yixuan held Yang Nainai's shoulder, while he smiled contentedly. The driver glanced at the rearview mirror from time to time, and said, 

"You are such a caring young man! You already know how to take care of your girlfriend too."

Huo Yixuan smiled lightly, "I have no choice, if I don't spoil my future wife, then she might run away with someone else." 

The driver smiled knowingly and said no more.

They drove on for another ten minutes before finally reaching their destination. Yang Nainai was still fast asleep, so Huo Yixuan carried her out of the cab.

Yet when he was just about to bring her into her house, he coincidentally bumped into Zhang Rui at the entrance.

"Yixuan?"

Huo Yixuan's back immediately stiffened as he forgot how to respond. On the other hand, Yang Nainai responded by suddenly opening up her eyes widely at the sound of her mother’s voice.

When she saw her mother's face clearly, she was so frightened that she almost fell from Huo Yixuan’s arms. It was a good thing that Huo Yixuan had reacted fast enough so she was able to get down without any further incidences happening.

"Mom, you... When did you come back, why didn't you tell me before this?"

Yang Nainai panicked, as she wondered how much her mother had seen and thought about them in her head. What to do, what should she do, how could she explain herself?

After a brief panic, Huo Yixuan immediately regained his composure. 

"Auntie Zhang, welcome back."

It was impossible for Zhang Rui to not suspect anything when they were both acting like this. 

"Yixuan, why are you holding Nainai like that, don’t tell me that you two..."

"I... I..."

"She twisted her foot, so I was carrying her back because of that." 

Huo Yixuan instantly softened his appearance so he looked more like an obedient and angelic student which completely screened that roguish devilish nature that was his real self. 

"Yes, yes, yes, mom. I accidentally twisted my foot today so Huo Yixuan had kindly carried me up himself." 

In order to cooperate with his lie, Yang Nainai also pretended to limp pitifully as she walked towards Zhang Rui, and pouted like a child to her 

"Moooom, my foot hurts so much. Why did you only come back now? Did you bring me anything delicious?"

Seeing her begging for food, Zhang Rui scoffed at her exasperatingly, 

"You've gained more weight during my absence, and you’re still thinking about food? Aren’t you afraid that you won't find a boyfriend in the future?"

Yang Nainai squinted her eyes and snorted at her.

Zhang Rui ignored her and looked at Huo Yixuan, 

"I'm sorry to trouble you to look after Nainai when I’m not around these days, Yixuan. Did she bother you too much?"

Yang Nainai went mute at the revelation. Take care of her? Her mom actually asked Huo Yixuan to take care of her? Did she suddenly see ghosts in front of her? Her mom was clearly sending a cute and charming little white rabbit like her into a black hearted, perverted wolf’s den!

Where did her mother’s morals go? This was so messed up!

"Mom, what nonsense are you talking about. I am not getting fat. Hmph!"

Huo Yixuan smiled as he looked sweetly at Yang Nainai, 

"Auntie, you have a lot of luggage with you. Why don’t I help you with that?" 

He didn’t bother to wait for Zhang Rui to answer him and immediately grabbed her two large suitcases and went into the building.

Yang Nainai took Zhang Rui's hand and limped along.

Once Huo Yixuan had sent both of them upstairs, he left swiftly without dawdling behind. Zhang Rui had tried to persuade him to stay over for a late night snack but he refused her request. He acted exactly like a good student who didn’t expect to receive anything in return.

"Yixuan, that child has become such a dependable boy. How can my senior sister be so lucky as to give birth to such a sensible and handsome child?" 

Zhang Rui praised him as she started to open up her suitcase.

Yang Nainai huffed at her words inside and wanted to tell her mother not to only look at men’s faces when it came to judging men for their personalities. She wanted to tell her that Huo Yixuan is actually a beast dressed in luxurious clothing. Even though he was displaying a little gentleness, that gesture was all for show.

Before she could speak, Yang Nainai suddenly forgot to feel sad when she saw the snacks and specialty desserts in her mother's suitcase. 

"Mom, this brand of chocolate is so delicious and you actually bought it for me? I really love you to death."

She jumped up and kissed Zhang Rui on both her cheeks. She decided then to forgive her mother's blindness.

Zhang Rui chuckled and tapped her head with her index finger, 

"My greedy little foodie."

Yang Nainai tore open the packaging and chomped on it with a satisfied face.

Suddenly, Zhang Rui turned to look at her, 

"Didn't you say that you’d twisted your ankle? How are you able to still dance so happily just now?"

Yang Nainai almost bit her tongue and she immediately scrunched up one corner of her lips, 

"Ah, ah, ouch, it hurts. Mom, get me the ointment now. Ouch, its so painful."

Yang Nainai cradled her foot and tried to pretend as if she was completely miserable, but Zhang Rui sneered, 

"Wasn't your right foot supposed to be the one that was injured? Why are you holding on to your left foot now?"

Ermm...

Yang Nainai can't continue her act any longer so she lowered her head and bit into the chocolate bar in her hand. She just pretended that she didn't hear what her mother had just asked her at all.

Zhang Rui grabbed her chocolate and sat across from her, 

"Tell me, what's the matter with you two?"

"What matter could we both have?" Yang Nainai yawned, "Mom, I'm exhausted, I'm going to wash up then go to bed!"

Zhang Rui raised her hand to give her a burst of flicks on her forehead. Yang Nainai shrank back and rubbed her sore forehead with her fingers, 

"Mom, why are you being so cruel!"

"Little actress, you still dare to act in front of me. What's the matter with you two? He actually carried you back home, don’t tell me that you two are..."

"No, we have absolutely no relationship with each other, I... I just fell asleep, and I swear that he kindly just carried me down the cab!" 

Yang Nainai was serious, but Zhang Rui still didn't believe her.

She chewed on Yang Nainai’s half eaten chocolate, then squinted her eyes while giving her a cheeky smile, 

"Nainai, I’ll give you one last chance to confess. Are you two dating now? If you don't tell me, it will be just the same if you force me to go and ask him anyway."

Yang Nainai was now backed into a corner and she knew very well that her mom would always do what she said. She mulled over her words for quite some time before she bravely admitted, 

"I... We've just started. If you don't like it, then I'll break up with him right away. Don't worry, Mom, I'll listen to whatever you tell me to do." 

She was now super confident that her old mom would ask them to go separate ways and when she tells her that, Yang Nainai could use that as an excuse to ask Huo Yixuan to stop pestering her with her mom’s words as a backup. Wasn’t she smart?!

Unexpectedly, Zhang Rui looked her up and down, then nodded, 

"I didn't expect this but my darling daughter, Nainai still has this ability."

Yang Nainai looked confused, what did she mean?

"To be honest, mommy always thought that with your body and appearance, it would be good enough if you are able to get out of your single status in college. I didn't expect you to solve this problem in high school instead. More than that, your partner turned out to be pretty excellent too. Good job, Nainai, mommy is so happy for you." 

“Moooom, what nonsense are you talking about! How can you ignore everything else just because Huo Yixuan is handsome. Why aren’t you concerned that we are too young to be in a relationship? Isn’t it really detrimental to my progress in studies if you treat me so differently?!"
