Chapter 71: Hospital

The sound of sirens filled the tense night air as it attracted the curiosity of the onlookers who happened to witness the chaos. They could only look on when a group of policemen surrounded a certain intersection. It seems as if someone had been arrested, but they did not know what had happened there.

Huo Yixuan carried Yang Nainai into the ambulance and bundled her tightly in his warm arms throughout the journey. No one was even able to take a peek at Yang Nainai's face while her anxious fingers clenched tightly at Huo Yixuan's shirt. Her trembles persisted like a terrified little bunny.

She felt as if Huo Yixuan was her only support now and refused to even loosen her clenching fingers even a little because she was terrified of being taken away from him. She couldn't afford to trust anyone except for Huo Yixuan. He even had to comfort her when she got to the hospital until her full body checkup was complete.

"Fortunately, your girlfriend only sustained some outer injuries and was not s3xually assaulted. After a good rest, she can be discharged from the hospital. But..." 

The doctor looked at Yang Nainai, who was still curled up in that protective stance as she frowned. She had already put her under anesthesia but her patient was still sleeping uneasily. She let out a worried sigh.

"But what?" Huo Yixuan looked at the doctor nervously.

"But when the patient encounters such a thing, it must have caused a lot of trauma for her. I suggest you contact a psychologist and provide her with some psychological counseling to avoid leaving an even bigger impact to her mental wellbeing." 

The doctor left as soon as she finished speaking. Huo Yixuan’s face ashen as his worried eyes roved on Yang Nainai's delicate features.

He pondered upon the doctor’s words for a while then decided to get up and make a phone call. Yet Yang Nainai's grip immediately tightened a little when she felt him rise from his position.

Huo Yixuan could see that her brows were crinkled in a deep frown so he decided to only send a text message instead.

After sending the message, Huo Yixuan laid on the bed, took Yang Nainai into his arms, and frowned thoughtfully.

It was probably due to the familiar musk that Yang Nainai's brows finally settled into a peaceful slumber.

Huo Yixuan could only stare at her sleeping face while his turbulent thoughts kept him from being able to sleep for a long time.

The next morning, the nurse came in to check on the patients when Yang Nainai woke up.

When she saw an unfamiliar face, her first instinct was to curl up against the headboard protectively and shrink away from her. Her eyes were full of panic and this attracted a burst of sympathy from the nurse. 

"Little girl, it's alright. This is a hospital, so you’re safe now."

Yang Nainai turned her alert gaze carefully before every line of muscle in her body released some of its tension, but her heart was still guarded against the potential perceived threat. She tugged up the quilt to wrap her body protectively then asked nervously, 

"My my friend... Where is he?"

Where is Huo Yixuan? Her panicking eyes search for his person while her brain started to set off blaring alarms inside as it conjured up bad outcomes that she was convinced could happen. Was she really rescued last night? How did she end up here?

Her mind was in a mess. Only fear occupied every corner of her brain, and she desperately needed a familiar person to give her a sense of security.

The alien environment she was in made her so confused!

The nurse tried to get closer, but was scared off by her terrified screams. She was at a loss of how she could handle this for a while and didn’t know whether she should alert the attending physician or continue to try to comfort the girl.

It was at that very moment that Huo Yixuan finally walked into the room and when he saw the situation they were in, he quickened his pace towards Yang Nainai.

Yang Nainai’s arms immediately extended to hug him tightly when her panicking eyes landed on him. Huo Yixuan reassured Yang Nainai and said to the nurse, 

"Sister Nurse, please go out first." 

The nurse was so relieved when she saw someone come in to smooth out the whole situation. She just nodded her head and decided to let the doctor check up on her later.

Fortunately, this patient was put in a single patient private ward so her shrill screams didn’t wake up the whole place and scare the other patients there.

"It’s okay, nothing will happen to you anymore, Nainai. I'm here, don't be afraid." 

Huo Yixuan patted her on the back to comfort her. Yang Nainai took in a deep breath of his familiar clean musk and gradually calmed down.

Her body lost all its previous tension while her mind finally cleared and calmed down. 

"Huo Yixuan, why am I here? Last night, last night was I..." 

Was she r4ped? How was she supposed to ask him about this? Her brain kept flashing the torrid image of the gangster’s grin, and the ugly uneven yellow teeth that could only be caused by smoking like a chimney all year round.

"No, Nainai, you were not r4ped." 

Huo Yixuan looked at her, while his heart squeezed painfully at her turmoil. What if he turned up even a second later last night? He was so afraid that Nainai would be even more broken mentally than she is now.

His heart was aching not because Nainai came so close to experiencing her body being invaded by another person but how she was harmed mentally and physically by those thugs. If he didn’t put the priority of saving her first, he would have beaten up all of them until he killed those beasts.

"Really? You didn't lie to me, right?" 

Yang Nainai could not forget the memory of being stripped n4ked. She could feel the tendrils of horror invade her fragile mind and could recall wanting to die at that very moment. In retrospect, the reality that she was saved felt more like an impossible dream instead.

Everything felt so peaceful now and it felt as if she was still suspended in the continuation of a dream.

Huo Yixuan gave her a warm smile to reassure her then he kissed her forehead, 

"Baby, believe me, it didn’t happen last night. You just had some outer wounds and the doctor said that you didn’t get r4ped. Don't worry, those beasts have been caught, I will never let them go and I made sure that they are punished so harshly that they wished they were dead."

Yang Nainai stared at the fierce protective light in his eyes for a long time, and saw how he never wavered even a single second about this. Her heart finally calmed down as all the doubts inside her heart cleared. He was really telling her the truth.

Tears burned and welled up in her eyes when she suddenly cried in relief. Her arms tightened reflexively on Huo Yixuan, 

"Huo Yixuan, I was so afraid to die. If I was really r4ped, would you not want me anymore? Will my life really be over?"

For a young girl who was just 18 years old, being r4ped would be the biggest threat that would tarnish her will to live. Yang Nainai was sure that she would never be able to bear living with that terrible stain in her life.

"Don't be afraid, no matter what happens, you are my darling. I was the one who was wrong since I didn't protect you well. I went there too late to save you. I will always be by your side in the future, and protect you every step of the way." 

Huo Yixuan hated the fact that he didn’t know how to express how he will give every ounce of his being to ensure she stays protected and soothe her with all the pretty words so that she won’t be sad anymore. Yet he knew that he had to be patient and let her take her time to cry out everything so her internal wounds can gradually heal one day.

Yang Nainai hugged his waist tightly, wailing out all the hurt and unfairness life had heaped cruelly on her. She cried for so long that she started hiccupping and gradually calmed down later on.

She only realized then that she could feel her streaky tears and snot sticking her face to his clothes. Yang Nainai couldn't help but blush and asked Huo Yixuan for a tissue.

Seeing her demeanor return to normal, Huo Yixuan finally showed a relieved smile and wiped her tears and snot with his own hands.

"You don’t need to do it for me, I'll do it myself." 

Yang Nainai grabbed the tissue, turned her head and blew her nose. She was now completely calm.

Her tummy suddenly growled in protest as a waft of delicious food hit her nose. She was hungry so she looked at Huo Yixuan eagerly.

Huo Yixuan smiled and opened the lunch box, which contained steamed buns and porridge, 

"Take some porridge first to line your stomach."

Yang Nainai was about to get a spoon when Huo Yixuan grinned and said, 

"Open your mouth, I'll feed you."

Yang Nainai stared at him dumbly and did not respond.

"Say ah..." Huo Yixuan gestured with a smile.

Yang Nainai pursed her lips, "I...I'll do it myself."

Huo Yixuan said, "Nainai, you have a boyfriend now so you are no longer alone. You have to learn to rely on me, and I will take care of you for the rest of your life. Hmm!"

He put the spoon closer to her lips as Yang Nainai’s inquisitive eyes never left his affectionate gaze. She didn't want to resist anymore so she just opened her mouth to eat a mouthful of porridge.

Huo Yixuan smiled contentedly, patiently feeding her one spoon after another until half the bowl of porridge was emptied, before allowing Yang Nainai to eat the breakfast by herself.

Yang Nainai looked at Huo Yixuan with shy affection while she nibbled on her bun under his warm gaze before Zhang Rui arrived.

Zhang Rui pushed open the door anxiously. Her eyes roved over the entire scene worriedly before letting out a sigh of relief. Her darling daughter was eating so this must mean that her daughter had already calmed down.

"Nainai, I'm so sorry. Mommy is late." 

Zhang Rui walked towards her causing Yang Nainai to hug her mother's waist tightly when she finally came within her reach.

Yang Nainai could feel her emotion become turbulent once more at the sight of her mother.

Seeing this, Huo Yixuan left the mother and daughter duo to their own privacy, and went out by himself.

After going out, he found a secluded place to call.

"What happened to those beasts?"
