But I fell in love with You

Chapter 73: Her Past

Ma Shanshan chatted with Yang Nainai for a long time. When Huo Yixuan came, she took her leave reluctantly.

Huo Yixuan then turned around to close the door behind her leaving figure. The moment he sat on the hospital bed, Yang Nainai immediately circled her arms around his waist and buried her face on his chest.

Huo Yixuan stroked her silky strands softly and asked her in a worried tone,

"What's wrong? Are you unhappy?"

Yang Nainai shook her head and raised her face to look at him, "Huo Yixuan, do you want to know why they can't get along with me?"

The ‘they’ that she was referring to included both Hu Sili and Zhang Qiyun.

Huo Yixuan gently traced the delicate lines of her face, then bent his head to kiss her upturned lips. "Are you willing to tell me?"

Her eyes followed every little expression on his handsome profile endearingly, then she nodded lightly before grabbing her phone on the bedside table.

"I'll show you a photo first, and we'll talk about them after seeing it."

Huo Yixuan drew her body to rest in between his when he sat on the bed. He then saw her tap into her cloud storage app and open up an old photo there. The girl in the photo was wearing a purple t-shirt. She was so fat that her round cheeks squished all her other features that she looked like a scrunched up ball. She just looked hideous no matter what angle a person saw her in.

Yang Nainai sucked in a deep breath and said with determination, "This is me before, didn’t I look really ugly then?"

She was not really that ugly in reality but her size just didn’t fit today’s beauty standards nor does it fit what boys nowadays were brainwashed to fall in love with.

Huo Yixuan just looked at her silently and waited patiently for her to continue.

Yang Nainai added, "Although I've lost some weight in recent years, I'm still a bit fatter than those thin girls. However, at that time, I didn't realize where I really stood."

"Why do you say that?" Huo Yixuan's eyes darkened a little furiously, yet Yang Nainai was still staring at the phone and didn't notice his sudden change of emotion.

"At that time, I came out fresh from the countryside to study junior high here. My grandma still maintained some pretty traditional outlook because she is from the older generation. She always told me that girls should eat more so that my body will become sturdy and healthy when I grow up. I love to eat so I greedily ate too much and unknowingly became this ugly fat girl who was the bane of everyone’s eyes. I didn’t think that there was anything wrong with me until I entered the city and found out that being fat is considered ugly and a sin.”

If you are fat, you are not qualified to like anyone at all.

Yang Nainai gradually recalled the old memories of that year. She was still in the second grade of junior high then. Zhang Qiyun had transferred to their class because there was some test scores adjustments that year.

The Zhang Qiyun then had this clean cut flair that paired perfectly with his handsome features. Everyone fell in love with the polite high achieving youth the moment they met him face to face and Yang Nainai was no exception.

The love letters from countless girls started pouring in as they passionately confessed their feelings. Almost every day, Zhang Qiyun will have some small snacks placed on his desk by his admirers.

When Valentine's Day arrived, his desk would be so flooded with chocolate boxes that he didn’t even have a clear space to place his books on.

Yang Nainai’s desk was behind Zhang Qiyun then, and she usually had some form of interaction with him every single day. She had always thought that he was really handsome and secretly likened him to a handsome male lead that walked out of a manga book.

Her young girl's heart constantly swooned and thumped hard when she came near him. She contemplated it for quite some time before deciding to make the firm decision to confess her love to him.

"You confessed to him before?"

Huo Yixuan's eyes glinted dangerously when he heard this. His jealous hands immediately tunneled underneath Yang Nainai's clothes, cupped her t!ts, and tugged at her sensitive tips to punish her.

Yang Nainai gasped in an uneven breath before her fingers pressed down on his firmly while she pleaded,

"I was young and ignorant then and was blinded for quite a while. After that I got into so much bad luck because of this. It was then that I actually realized that you can't just judge a person by their looks."

Huo Yixuan’s wintery gaze glared at her angrily while one of his hands swept downwards, ignoring Yang Nainai's protest and cupped her small hole possessively. His icy cold words growled out between his gritted teeth.

"Continue and make things clear now."

Yang Nainai felt guilt accosting her soul yet she still stubbornly persisted on to tell her story.

The younger her then spent a week revising and changing the contents of the love letter multiple times, and finally decided that she was ready to send it out. In order to stand out from the rest, she purposely splurged and bought a beautiful envelope, tucked the folded love letter in neatly, and was ready to find a suitable time to deliver the letter to Zhang Qiyun. She finally could just confess her feelings to him.

Yang Nainai was already prepared for the fact that there was a 99% chance her love letter would not get a response from the intended recipient. Her love letter might just end up like the rest and be thrown into the trash can by Zhang Qiyun.

But Yang Nainai, who had just experienced having a crush on someone for the first time held on to the thin thread of hope in her heart. She was fueled by the blind ignorant courage and couldn't help placing her bets on that 1% chance that perhaps a manga hero like him would end up liking her too?

In fact, she had nothing to lose anyway even if she ended up failing.

She didn't get her hopes up too high on receiving any responses from him. She only thought that it was rare for her to like someone this much anyway, so she should just confess once, or else she would end up regretting and thinking of all the ‘what ifs’ in the future.

It was just her bad luck that she stuffed the love letter into Zhang Qiyun's schoolbag on Hu Sili's birthday coincidentally. Zhang Qiyun forgot that it was his step-sister’s birthday. He didn't even bring her a present at all when she just took it for granted and went through his school bag to search for it.

The moment Hu Sili saw that love letter, she crushed it in her hands while her rage festered.

"Hu Sili likes Zhang Qiyun?"

Huo Yixuan's tapered fingers gently coaxed Yang Nainai's nether petals open and probed into its depths. Yang Nainai let out a soft whimper as her water quickly drenched his masterful fingers while her slightly trembling hand tightened on his to stop him.

Huo Yixuan refused to let go, and continued to knead her br34sts with his other hand.

Yang Nainai gasped, "Don't, please wait for me to finish this."

"Hmm, finish it then."

Huo Yixuan continued to drag his mischievous fingers lazily, sifting through the sensitive folds, while maintaining that agonizingly slow rhythm just because she had begged him to do so.

Yang Nainai released her tense breath and continued,

"Hu Sili and Zhang Qiyun were neighbors initially, but their parents later got married so they had to become step-siblings. Hu Sili could only temporarily tamper down her love for him. However, she can't stand seeing Zhang Qiyun getting close to other girls around him. I just happened to be really unlucky and stepped in front of the firing barrel of a gun."

When Hu Sili found out that the person who sent the love letter happened to be Yang Nainai, a vicious idea bloomed and poisoned her heart. She wanted to humiliate Yang Nainai ruthlessly down to her bones and set her as the prime example of what would happen if any of the other girls dared to covet Zhang Qiyun, who belongs to her exclusively. She wanted to extinguish any spark of interest that may arise to capture Zhang Qiyun's attention once and for all.

Zhang Qiyun suddenly just found himself embroiled in the middle of a gossip and was now widely known because of the cursed love letter. In the end, his father also reprimanded him because of it and so he blamed everything on Yang Nainai's shoulders.

Since Yang Nainai was fat and ugly at the time, the people around them mocked him when they talked about it so Zhang Qiyun felt that Yang Nainai's liking him was a direct insult to his reputation.

When beautiful girls confessed, it was a kind of boost to men’s ego and was worth showing off in public.

Yet on the flip side, it was a major insult to be liked by an ugly fat woman, and would disgust everyone to no end.

Perhaps in this lifetime, no one would be able to escape from the ugly reality of living in this superficial vain world.

Hu Sili first arranged for Yang Nainai to meet Zhang Qiyun so that she could trick her into turning up alone for Zhang Qiyun's birthday.

Yang Nainai took out every last savings she had and bought a birthday cake for Zhang Qiyun. She then turned up full of hope to the KTV, but her presence only humiliated Zhang Qiyun and dialed up his annoyance to no end. In the end, he picked up the cake and threw it on Yang Nainai in anger.

"Yang Nainai, don’t you even look at yourself in the mirror after you pee in the toilet? You are fat and ugly and look just like a sumo wrestler. How dare you have the guts to even confess to me, don’t you feel embarrassed at all? I can only feel disgust when I look at you."

The smashed cake had smeared and covered Yang Nainai's body with its gooey cream. She could only stand there stupidly and ask him in shock,

"Then why did you invite me to your birthday party?"

"No one invited you, okay? For god’s sake, have some humility and save some face for yourself. You were the one who kept following me shamelessly, and you even have the nerve to tell everyone that I like you. Yang Nainai, do me a favor and stay far far away from me. Please don’t come and disgust me anymore."

Zhang Qiyun mercilessly humiliated her in front of everyone.

Yang Nainai looked around at everyone's mocking eyes and sneering mouths, then fled the scene as fast as she could.

Mari’s corner:

Poor Nainai… The way her self confidence is just battered down by the events of her life feels so heart wrenching.
